Who are you and What do you do?
My name is Danny Johnson and I live in Mobile, Alabama. I have a small computer repair business in the midtown area of Mobile (36606) where I do upgrades, repairs and sell the occasional refurbished computer. I also build, design and market websites, with emphasis on Ecommerce sites. I buy computers on occasion as well.
What are your qualifications?
I took first computer class in 1984. I have numerous certifications, too many to enumerate here, some obscure, some popular- MSCE, A+Plus, Dell and Microsoft Certifications. Whats important is I am certified and have training, unlike many so called ‘computer guys’ here in Mobile. I do not cut grass for a living, nor do I work at the mall like some other ‘computer guys’. This is what I do full time.
What’s your story?
After many years experience with computers and selling items on the internet, I moved to Boulder, Colorado in early 2002. I quickly found a great job with a wholesaler who had a large ecommerce division. I learned the ins and outs, attended many classes and received many certifications.
In 2008, I moved back to Mobile, Alabama to help with family. After about six months, I hadn’t found a job yet, as there is very little ‘tech’ here and even less ecommerce. People here seem to know only one word when it comes to selling items on the net, and that word is “Ebay”. I started DeepFriedWebdesign.com in mid 2008, and quickly acquired my first client, ShoreLineBikesandKayaks.com, a small bike and kayak outfitter in Fairhope.
Things were churning along well until a friend of my sisters asked me to look at her computer. According to the Geek Squad at Best Buy, the hard drive was fried and needed to be replaced. The client brought it to me mainly for a second opinion. Turns out it was just a nasty virus. I recovered all the clients photos, music, documents and reinstalled Windows XP. I had the computer back to the client the next morning for $75. They were floored, as Best Buy took almost a week just to diagnose the problem and quoted $250 to replace the drive and reinstall Windows XP. I explained that I understood what it was like to be without a computer and that customer service was my main focus. I wasn’t here to sell new overpriced hardware, but to provide a good service. After they left, I made a few phone calls. Most local computer guys wanted $150 for a reinstall of Windows- and you had to supply the drivers and windows disks. Another wanted $199 to clean viruses and adware..
So on that cloudy day in November 2008, Danny the Computer Guy was in business. This website was added in the spring of 2009, to showcase my prices and computer packages I have for sale.
